Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology Update: September 2021

September 7th takes us into the month of the Fire Rooster, the eighth month of the Metal Ox year. We’re now in the height of fall in the Chinese solar calendar, with Metal element at its strongest. In the Feng Shui Flying Star chart, monthly star 7, also of Metal element, is in the center.

September offers us a more steady rhythm after a fast-paced August. We can feel the shift in energy especially in the morning during the first half of the month, part of the poetically named “White Dew Descends” seasonal marker. Notice the presence of morning dew at sunrise and take in the stillness and clarity in the air. It’s one of the loveliest times of the year, with Yin subtly continuing her rise and Yang stepping back after a busy summer. Synchronize your inner world with the external world to harmonize with the season: return to yourself and schedule time for self-care and self-reflection. As the Rooster is a Yin Metal sign associated with beauty, September is also a month to bring in more beauty into your life.
The second half of the month marks the arrival of the equinox as we reach the height of autumn, celebrated as the Chinese Mid-Autumn / Mooncake Festival. In the I-Ching hexagram, Yin (broken lines) and Yang (solid lines) are equal, with Yang (Heaven) on top and Yin (Earth) rising. As the season progresses, the presence of Yin / darkness increases, characterized by cool, dry wind. With Metal element, associated with the lungs, at peak, strengthen the body with heartier foods that are cooked slowly to bring energy up to the surface. Pungent, spicy foods help clear up nasal passages. Nourish the lungs with a regular Qigong practice or breathing exercises such as pranayama.
Yin Fire, the month’s heavenly stem, represents joy, inspiration, hope, and an open heart at its highest frequency. On the shadow side, Yin Fire can also bring reactive and unpredictable behaviors. Take a deep breath before you react, and channel any anger you may have into constructive activities. Enrich the heart by practicing gratitude and generosity, focus on an abundance mindset to invite more abundance into your life.
As Fire helps mold Metal into shape and transform it into a more useful tool, the elements of September support breakthroughs and conscious transformation. What can you add into your repertoire to change your game? Turn your passion and your gifts into a unique offering that only you can provide. Identify what’s missing in your skillsets to propel you forward on your path.
The Rooster is associated with the planet Venus, beauty, gold, and all that glitters. One of the four Peach Blossom stars in Chinese Astrology, the Rooster brings social and romantic opportunities to those born in year or day of the Monkey, Rat, and Dragon. As the Rooster’s best friend, the Dragon can expect a very positive month ahead.
Other signs that have affinities with the Rooster are allies the Snake and the Ox. Those with these signs in their chart can expect a collaborative month ahead with support from their personal and professional networks.
The Rooster is also a “nobleman star” to those born on a Fire day or Fire years (which are years that end with 6 and 7, such as 1976 or 1987). If the Rooster is your nobleman star, September is a good month for personal, medical, or professional consultation as the advice and help you receive will contribute to your healing and growth. As we are in a Fire Rooster month, one of the few special pillars in Chinese Astrology that contain the nobleman star, we can count on the universe to guide and help us this month – ask and you shall receive!
If you have a Rooster in your chart, this is a month to be conscious of self-sabotaging behaviors. Practice self-forgiveness and be kind to yourself. September may be the most challenging month of the year for those with a Rabbit in their chart as the Rabbit is the sign opposite the Rooster. Relationships are usually the most affected – speak your truth from a place of love.
SEPTEMBER 2021 FENG SHUI
In the Flying Star chart for September 2021 above, the numbers in green are the annual stars for the current year (good until February 3, 2022), while the numbers in blue refer to September 2021’s monthly stars (good from September 7 to October 7, 2021).
The various meanings associated with the flying star at the center can provide us with guidance and insights for the specific period. With hostile star 7 in the center, we’re reminded of events of 2020, as September’s monthly stars mirror 2020’s annual stars. Think back to your emotional, physical, and mental states then. Most of us may have moved on from the fear, grief, and anger we experienced last year, while others have gotten even more fearful and angrier. Keep your vibration high by tuning in to the frequency of joy that’s present in the Fire element of the month. Manifestation can only happen when we are in an ascending cycle and rooted in truth.
Monthly star 7, a Yin Metal star, is associated with the Lake trigram, the mouth, the lung, and the emotion grief. Metal, like a mirror, encourages self-reflection. The Lake trigram itself is almost like the Heaven trigram, which is of Yang Metal element. In the Heaven trigram, there are three solid Yang lines, whereas the Lake trigram has one broken Yin line on top of two solid Yang lines, illustrating how Heaven is within us. We only need to look beyond the surface and dive within to find our inner guidance, the spirit within.
This month, keep the center of your office or residence quiet to avoid activating the center’s strong Metal stars, and take care when handling sharp objects. Observe the state of your mental health as a strong metal presence can affect the mind (and may even cause headaches!)
The West, 2021’s luckiest sector, is even more auspicious this month with the monthly star 9 of joy and future prosperity strengthening the annual star 8 of current prosperity. Do most of your daily activities here. Other positive sectors are the Northeast, blessed with monthly star 1 of distant prosperity and wisdom combining with the annual star 9 of future prosperity, and the Northwest, visited by monthly star 8 of prosperity.
Activate the positive energies of the monthly and annual stars by spending your time and doing your daily activities in these sectors of your residence or office. As the Northwest sector is also occupied by the annual star 7, reinforce any doors or windows located in the sector.
The sectors afflicted by the annual or monthly star 5 of misfortune and star 2 of illness should ideally be kept quiet, but if you can’t avoid them, use them mindfully – no loud noises or banging the doors. In September, these sectors are the Southeast, North, South, and East.
*Although there may be remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to simply avoid using the sector, or keep the area as quiet as possible and respect whatever energy is visiting there, especially if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal energies as you may accidentally activate a negative natal star. If you do have to spend time in the area, keep your activities there minimal. Common sense also applies: for example, it’s a good idea to have doors and windows reinforced if they’re located in a sector affected by star 7 of robbery.
Contact me here if you’d like to identify and activate the auspicious sectors in your living or office space and subdue the influences of inauspicious stars to help optimize your family’s well-being. I also recommend getting a strategic life reading, which provides you with a blueprint for manifesting your highest potentials.
**If you have had a Feng Shui assessment done, consider getting an annual update as the annual stars are strong in influence and can highly affect the well-being of the home’s occupants. A proper Feng Shui analysis always takes into account the floor plan of a home, its location, direction, external and internal environment, and the year the home was built, as well as its affinity with the residents’ natal charts.
Just like we spend time on self-care as part of our life’s self-work, there is major “home” work involved once you’ve had your home professionally Feng Shui’d. Knowing your home’s natal energies brings full awareness of how your immediate environment can positively influence your life.
