Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology Update: June 2023

June 6 takes us into the month of the Earth Horse. We’re now in the middle of summer according to the Chinese solar calendar, with Fire element reaching its height at the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. In the Feng Shui Flying Star chart, the monthly stars are duplicates of the annual stars, with flying star 4 in the center, amplifying the influences of the annual stars.

The month of the Horse opens with a seasonal marker called “Grain Ripens,” a 15-day period when summer fruits and vegetables are quickly ripening. Yang has now stabilized and is taking over Yin, with Yin completely out of the environment by the time we enter the June 21 solstice in the second half of the month. This is a time to be most physically active to harmonize with nature, now at its brightest and most expansive, with Fire element dominating.
As a Peach Blossom star, the Horse encourages us to enjoy the light-hearted pleasures of summer after a fast-paced month of the Snake. Peach Blossom stars are the four cardinal signs of the Chinese zodiac that appear at the height of their respective season. Also called stars of romance, the Peach Blossoms love to socialize and engage in community celebrations and seasonal get-togethers. It’s no wonder that the month of the Horse (June 6 – July 6) is one of the busiest times for weddings, summer parties, and graduations.
Yang Earth in the month’s heavenly frequency serves as a reminder to manage your boundaries in this social-oriented month. Associated with mountains, valleys, and sacred temples of the world, Yang Earth represents what’s sturdy and immovable, a solid foundation that’s years in the making. Take your time building your legacy, and remain calm and steady as a mountain, even in the most stressful situations. Summer may be a time for play, but the inner work doesn’t stop.
The Earth Horse as one of the most spiritual, highly connected pillars in Chinese Astrology can help us elevate the Fire/Light energy of the month. Fire is the element of joy – tune in to the joy within to lift your spirit. The Chinese words for the Earth Horse pillar is “Wu Wu” (each of the “Wu” is a different Chinese character). Woo woo indeed! Embrace the light and the woo woo this month to raise your frequency. Positive thinking is essential to the heart, the organ ruled by Fire element.

What’s ahead for the signs

Signs that get along with the Horse are secret friend the Sheep and allies the Tiger and the Dog. Those with these signs in their charts can generally expect a more harmonious, collaborative month ahead. *Keep in mind that other signs in the natal chart may contribute to a more challenging month.
Those born in year or day of the Snake, the Ox, and the Bird (the Rooster) are the social butterflies of the month with the Horse as their Peach Blossom star. Enjoy the popularity and the sweetness of the Peach Blossom energy!
If you were born in a Yin Metal year or day, the Horse month is a good time to schedule personal, medical, or professional consultations as the Horse brings support from noble people and heavenly guidance. *Yin Metal years are years that end with 1, such as 1991, 2001, 2011, 2021, and so on.
Those with the Rat, the sign opposite the Horse, in their chart may find this month to be more challenging, especially when it comes to balancing personal and professional obligations. As both signs are Peach Blossom stars, this is a month to be mindful of excessive social activities. Know your limit, avoid overscheduling yourself, and recognize when it’s time to take a break.

Best days of the month

The Horse month is blessed with a good number of positive days, especially in the first week of the month. My favorites are June 7 (Full day), June 13 (Success day), June 18 (Remove day), June 19 (Full day), June 21 (Stable day), June 25 (Success day), and June 27 (Open day). Use these days to focus on your priorities, whether personal or professional.  June 18, 19, and 21 also carry the vibrant (and woo woo) energies of the New Moon, Jupiter sextile Saturn transit, and the solstice.

JUNE 2023 FENG SHUI

In the Flying Star chart for June 2023 above, the numbers in green are the annual stars for the current year (good until February 3, 2024), while the numbers in blue refer to June 2023’s monthly stars (good from June 6 until July 6, 2023). As you can see, this month’s stars are duplicates of the annual stars, with star 4 of romance and creativity in the center. The double stars mean that the good sectors of the year are even better this month, while the negative sectors should ideally be avoided or used only when needed.
Star 4 in the center reinforces the social nature of the Horse month. Associated with Xun, the Wind trigram, star 4 is a reminder from the Tao for us to be creative and expansive with our visions, and to stay flexible in our attitude to best adapt to the winds of change.
This month’s most productive sectors are the South, North, Southwest, and West. Activate the sectors by doing your daily activities there. If the center of your home is an open space, you can use it as a creative space as the presence of star 4 invites creative energy into your whole space.
The Northwest and the East are the sectors to keep quiet this year, especially this month, with star 5 of misfortune in the Northwest and star 2 of illness in the East. Take extra precautions when it comes to your health if your home faces one of these directions, or if your bedroom is located in one of these sectors.
The anger energy is strong in the Southeast sector, visited by double star 3 of conflicts and arguments. Be mindful when using the room and leave if you feel anger or irritability rising. Reinforce all doors and windows located in the Northeast, afflicted by hostile star 7 associated with robbery and fire dangers.
For more insights on the nature of each star in this month’s flying star chart, refer to my post on the Year of the Water Rabbit. I also wrote an article on the Fire element of summer for Energy Magazine.
*Although there may be remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to keep the area as quiet and uncluttered as possible, especially if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal energies as you may accidentally activate a negative natal star. Common sense also applies – for example, it’s a good idea to have doors and windows reinforced if they’re located in a sector affected by star 7 of robbery.
