Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology Update for August 2022: The Earth Monkey Month

August 7th takes us into the month of the Earth Monkey. We’re now in the first month of fall and the second half of the Water Tiger year according to the solar calendar. Expect August 2022 to be the most intense month of the year! We have the Monkey opposing the Tiger, which brings conflicting forces, and we also have the monthly stars mirroring the annual stars in the monthly Feng Shui Flying Star chart, which amplifies the main themes of the year.

The year of the Tiger is already a fast-paced year due to the nature of the Tiger as a travel star. Add the Monkey, the Tiger’s opposing sign and also a travel star into the mix, and you may just find yourself racing against time or feeling pulled in different directions throughout the month. Mindfulness is this month’s magic keyword. Be extra mindful on the road, especially if your natal chart contains the Tiger or the Monkey, as many of us will be rushing from one place to another. The Monkey brings movement and activities to those born in year or day of the Tiger, Horse, or Dog, while the Tiger is the travel star of those born in year or day of the Monkey, Rat, and Dragon. Since the Monkey and the Tiger are each other’s travel star, we will all feel the speed and intensity. Choose your direction and embrace change – travel stars are after all the change agents of the Chinese zodiac.
Yang Earth in the month’s heavenly frequency serves as a reminder to remain calm and steady as a mountain, even in the most stressful situations. Take a deep breath before you react. Yang Earth can also represent blockages – look for creative solutions or change your direction to get around a blockage instead of letting it stop you in your path.
August is a time of change, with the environment shifting from the heaviness of Earth to the sharpness of Metal, the element associated with grief and letting go. August is usually a time many of us start “grieving” as we let go of the joys and freedom of summer and return to a more structured lifestyle. Metal has a dispersive energy – think of trees shedding their leaves. What do you need to shed, cut, and release in order to move forward?
Metal is also the element of truth, reflection, and clarity. With powerful opposing forces at work, August may sound like a dangerous month, but it’s also a month we may achieve breakthroughs while others may experience sudden wake-up calls as Metal helps us gain the clarity to see things as they are. Whereas the Tiger, a Yang Wood sign, can be unbending in its views and beliefs, the Monkey as a Yang Metal sign has no attachment and is quick to cut through illusion and deception.
The signs that are in harmony with the Monkey are allies the Rat and the Dragon. Those with these signs in their chart can generally expect a more supportive, collaborative month ahead. The Monkey’s secret friend the Snake, however, needs to err on the side of caution as the Snake has a side clash / a square with the Tiger and the Monkey as fellow travel stars.
If you were born on a Yin Wood day or year (which is a year ending in 5 such as 1975, 1985, 1995) or Yin Earth day or year (ending in 9 such as 1979, 1989, 1999), you benefit from heavenly guidance and earthly support as the Monkey is your noble star – a good month to schedule personal or professional consultations as the help and advice you get will be what you need.

AUGUST 2022 FENG SHUI

In the Flying Star chart for August 2022 above, the numbers in green are the annual stars for the current year (good until February 3, 2023), while the numbers in blue refer to August 2022’s monthly stars (good from August 7 to September 6, 2022). As you can see, this month’s stars are the duplicates of the annual stars, which intensifies the influences of the stars.
The stars in the center of the Bagua chart, which form the energetic foundation of a particular period, can provide us with additional guidance to issues that may arise. As star 5 is an Earth element star that represents the center, this month remember to return to the center whenever you feel like you’re losing yourself, whether to a person, a cause, a job, or a belief.
With the double stars, this year’s best sectors, which are the Northeast, North, and Northwest, are even more vibrant, bringing more positive energy to occupants of the sectors, while the afflicted sectors are best avoided. The South sector can be tricky if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal stars as it’s visited by double 9, which intensifies the nature of the natal stars. The Southeast sector, with double 4, is ideal for studies or social activities.
Keep the center and the Southwest sectors quiet, and reinforce all doors and windows located in the West sector, visited by double stars 7, which make the sector more vulnerable to robberies and fire dangers. Those residing in the East sector can be prone to anger and arguments with double stars 3 in the sector.
You can review my outlook for the year of the Water Tiger for more on how the stars affect the sectors.
*Although there may be remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to simply avoid using the sector, or keep the area as quiet as possible and respect whatever energy is visiting there, especially if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal energies as you may accidentally activate a negative natal star. If you do have to spend time in the area, keep your activities there minimal. Common sense also applies: for example, it’s a good idea to have doors and windows reinforced if they’re located in a sector affected by star 7 of robbery.

I also recommend getting a strategic life reading, which provides you with a blueprint for manifesting your highest potentials.
**If you have had a Feng Shui assessment done, consider getting an annual update as the annual stars are strong in influence and can highly affect the well-being of the home’s occupants. A proper Feng Shui analysis always takes into account the floor plan of a home, its location, direction, external and internal environment, and the year the home was built, as well as its affinity with the residents’ natal charts.
Just like we spend time on self-care as part of our life’s self-work, there is major “home” work involved once you’ve had your home professionally Feng Shui’d. Knowing your home’s natal energies brings full awareness of how your immediate environment can positively influence your life.
