Feng Shui for 2020 Year of the Rat

It’s time to do your annual Feng Shui adjustment. February 4 is the start of spring in the solar calendar, a day used by Chinese Metaphysics practitioners to mark the start of a new astrological year. It’s also the day when annual elemental and astronomical influences that we refer to as “flying stars” in classical Feng Shui shift into new directions, affecting the environment, including the space we occupy.

Feng Shui’s flying stars, which are based on the Big Dipper, shift not only annually but also monthly, daily, and even bi-hourly, blending their energetic signatures to the environment. The annual stars are strongest in influence next to a home’s natal stars, which are direction-specific and based on the period the home was built. We’re currently at the tail end of Period 8, a twenty-year cycle that started in 2004, with Period 9’s energies getting stronger as we get closer to 2024. Houses built between February 4, 2004 to February 3, 2024 are considered Period 8 buildings.
Doing an annual Feng Shui adjustment is essential while a monthly one is recommended, as the stars can promote rapid growth when activated. They can also cause problems to those residing when left unaddressed. Knowing how the annual stars interact with the home’s natal stars and how they can affect the residents allows us to maximize our luck and minimize potential issues.
In the annual Feng Shui chart below, the energy of star 7, which is of Metal element, takes center place in 2020’s environment. Whereas we enjoyed a prosperous center in 2019 when auspicious star 8 flew to the center, in 2020 it is best to leave the center alone as the 7 is an outdated star associated with hostility and violence. Keep the center of your office or residence free of loud noises and bright colors.
2020’s most positive sectors are the Northwest, West, Northeast, and Southwest. Annual star 8 of prosperity flies to the Northwest while annual star 9 of future prosperity visits the West sector. Associated with Fire element, the 9 brings joy and celebrations. Distant prosperity star 1 flies to the Northeast, bringing wisdom and nobleman support, while annual star 4 of romance and academic excellence occupies the Southwest sector. The best way to activate the positive energies of these sectors is to simply keep the sectors occupied and do your daily activities there. The Northwest is the year’s most vibrant sector for health, harmony, and wealth, which is most beneficial if your main door, living room, bedroom, or office is located here. The West, Northeast, and Southwest are ideal for social gatherings, studies, and creative activities.
Depending on your home’s floor plan, you may be able to activate Feng Shui’s auspicious 4/9 combination if the Southwest and West sectors of your residence is an open space, or the 3/8 combination if the North and Northwest sectors of your residence is an open space, without walls separating the sectors.
The most critical sectors between February 4, 2020 to February 3, 2021 are the East (visited by the annual 5 Yellow of misfortune), the South (occupied by the annual star 2 of illness and the Three Killings), and the North (visited by the annual star 3 of arguments). The North is also the direction of the Rat, where the Grand Duke Jupiter (the presiding god of the year) resides. Keep these sectors quiet, avoid renovation and loud noises.

*Although there may be remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to simply avoid using the sector if you can, or keep the area as quiet as possible and respect whatever energy is visiting there, especially if you’ve never hired a Feng Shui consultant to do a professional assessment and are not familiar with your home’s natal energies, as you may accidentally activate a negative natal star. If you do have to spend time in the area, keep your activities there minimal.
**Contact me here if you’d like to identify and activate the auspicious sectors in your living or office space and subdue the influences of inauspicious stars to help optimize your family’s well-being. I also recommend getting a strategic life reading, which provides you with a blueprint for manifesting your highest potentials.
***If you have had your home Feng Shui’d, I strongly advise getting an annual update as the annual stars are strong in influence and can highly affect the well-being of the home’s occupants for the year. Just like we spend time on self-care as part of our life’s self-work, there is major “home” work involved once you’ve had your home professionally Feng Shui’d. Knowing your home’s natal energies can be enlightening as it brings full awareness to your internal environment, which is a major part of our luck and destiny.
