Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology Update: August 2021

August 7th takes us into the month of the Fire Monkey, the first month of fall in the Chinese solar calendar, a season ruled by Metal element. We’re now in the second half of the year of the Ox. In the Feng Shui Flying Star chart, auspicious monthly star 8 takes center stage, offering us a preview of a vibrant month ahead.

August is poised to be a fast-paced, dynamic month. You may feel the pace of life picking up already after a slow, sluggish month of the Sheep. The Monkey, a travel star, brings movement and activities, especially to those born in year or day of the Tiger, Horse, or Dog. We may get busy preparing to go back to work or school, or we may embark on travels and adventures before settling into a new routine. Be extra mindful on the road if your chart contains a Tiger, the sign opposite the Monkey.
As the environment shifts from the heaviness of Earth to the sharpness of Metal, so do we. Metal is associated with grief, and August is usually a time many of us start “grieving” as we let go of the joys of summer. Metal has a dispersive energy – think of trees shedding their leaves. What do we need to shed, cut, and release in order to move forward?
With Yang Fire in the heavenly stem of the month, we are reminded to stay centered in the heart. Yang Fire is bright and generous like the sun – stoke your inner fire by practicing generosity and always looking on the bright side. Find joy within instead of looking for it externally.
As Fire helps mold Metal into shape and make it more useful, incorporate Fire element into your life: focus on heart-based activities, engage in what makes your heart sing. Add Fire element foods such as berries, tomatoes, and bitter greens such as arugula and dandelion greens into your diet.
If you were born on a Yin Wood day or year (which is a year ending in 5 such as 1975, 1985, 1995) or Yin Earth day or year (ending in 9 such as 1979, 1989, 1999), you benefit from heavenly protection and guidance as the Monkey is your Nobleman star – a good month to schedule personal or professional consultations as the help and advice you get will be what you need.

AUGUST 2021 FENG SHUI

In the Flying Star chart for August 2021 above, the numbers in green are the annual stars for the current year (good until February 3, 2022), while the numbers in blue refer to August 2021’s monthly stars (good from August 7 to September 6, 2021).
The stars in the center of the Bagua chart, represented by the numbers, form the energetic foundation of the particular periods, whether annual or monthly. Each number (with the exception of number five) is associated with a trigram. The symbolisms of the trigrams can provide us with messages and guidance to issues that arise during the specific period.
Flying star 8 in the center corresponds to Gen, the Mountain trigram. Associated with Yang Earth element, the Mountain trigram is a symbol of stability and stillness. With two broken Yin lines at the bottom representing Earth and one solid Yang line at the top representing Heaven, the trigram illustrates the importance of being firmly grounded in earthly matters. When we’re rooted and in our center, we can steadily climb higher and observe truths from a bird’s eye view without judgment. We’re also more likely to remain calm even in the most stressful situations. The trigram also reminds us that there is a time for action, and a time for rest. Only in stillness can we gather and cultivate energy. Direct that energy well – build a solid foundation with your skills and investments, but preserve your energy until you are ready.
Stars 1, 4, 6, and 8 work well with each other, and this month we have three sectors from East to West that benefit from the positive combinations. With auspicious monthly star 8 of prosperity combining with the annual star 6 in the center palace, those whose homes have an open, usable center can tap into the vibrant energy by using the center more often and keeping the area bright and clutter-free.
Monthly star 1 of wisdom and distant prosperity visits the West sector, which is blessed with the annual star 8 of prosperity, creating another auspicious combination. The East benefits from monthly star 6 of power and annual star 4 of romance and creativity, making the sector ideal for studies, work, and social activities. Activate the positive energies of the monthly and annual stars by spending your time and doing your daily activities in these sectors of your residence or office. *Keep in mind that the effects of the visiting stars are also influenced by their interactions with the natal stars.
The sectors afflicted by the annual or monthly star 5 of misfortune and star 2 of illness should ideally be kept quiet, but if you can’t avoid them, use them mindfully – no loud noises or banging the doors. In August, these sectors are the Southeast, North, Southwest, and Northeast.
Reinforce any doors or windows located in the Northwest and Southeast sectors, afflicted by the annual and monthly stars 7 of robbery and fire dangers. You can put water element remedies in these two sectors.
*Although there may be remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to simply avoid using the sector, or keep the area as quiet as possible and respect whatever energy is visiting there, especially if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal energies as you may accidentally activate a negative natal star. If you do have to spend time in the area, keep your activities there minimal. Common sense also applies: for example, it’s a good idea to have doors and windows reinforced if they’re located in a sector affected by star 7 of robbery.
Contact me here if you’d like to identify and activate the auspicious sectors in your living or office space and subdue the influences of inauspicious stars to help optimize your family’s well-being. I also recommend getting a strategic life reading, which provides you with a blueprint for manifesting your highest potentials.
**If you have had a Feng Shui assessment done, consider getting an annual update as the annual stars are strong in influence and can highly affect the well-being of the home’s occupants. A proper Feng Shui analysis always takes into account the floor plan of a home, its location, direction, external and internal environment, and the year the home was built, as well as its affinity with the residents’ natal charts.
Just like we spend time on self-care as part of our life’s self-work, there is major “home” work involved once you’ve had your home professionally Feng Shui’d. Knowing your home’s natal energies brings full awareness of how your immediate environment can positively influence your life.
