February 3 takes us into the beginning of spring and the start of the year of the Metal Ox in the solar calendar. We’re now in the month of the Metal Tiger, a time of new beginnings, with both annual and monthly environmental energies we refer to as Feng Shui shifting into new directions, affecting our environment and immediate surroundings.
There are two different dates for the start of the new year, solar and lunar, which can be very confusing. We use the lunar new year as the day of celebration, which this year falls on February 11th or 12th, depending on the time the moon turns new in your location. Even though we have been under the influence of the elements of the Ox year since Jupiter moved into Aquarius just before solstice 2020, the solar date of February 3rd is when the energy of the Rat year ends and the new energy of the Ox year takes over.
Yang Metal, the heavenly frequency of the month, is associated with justice, metal tools, weapons, and musical instruments, while the Tiger is a Yang Wood sign associated with Jupiter, the planet of growth. We can use Metal as a tool to create, protect, or destroy. Since Yang Metal and Yang Wood can be uncompromising and unbending, it is essential that we get full clarity on a subject matter and apply compassion before we judge or react.
As we begin the year of the Ox, visualize the aspects of life you’d like to see growth, and think about the steps you need to take to turn those visions into reality. The Ox year will be more of a year of recovery, with very little growth as previously mentioned in my Year of the Ox outlook, but growth looks promising in 2022, the year of the Tiger, and we can use this month’s Yang Wood energy and the Ox year’s resourceful Yin Earth element to plan and build a solid foundation for the year ahead.
The month of the Tiger (February 3 to March 4) is a good time for those born in a Yin Metal year or day to invest in private coaching or professional advice as the Tiger brings support from the universe and noblepeople protection to those who have Yin Metal as their self-element (day master) or year of birth (which are years that end in 1, such as 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001). The Tiger is also a travel star for those born on day or year of the Monkey, Rat, and Dragon. These signs can expect a more active month than usual.
February 2021 Feng Shui
In the Flying Star Feng Shui chart for February 2021 above, the numbers in green are the annual stars for the current year (good until February 3, 2022), while the numbers in blue refer to February’s monthly stars. Since we’re now in a new Feng Shui year, remember to address the annual Feng Shui afflictions first before you take care of the monthly afflictions as the yearly energies are stronger. The various meanings associated with the flying star at the center and its associated trigram can provide us with guidance and insights for the specific period. In February, monthly star 5 of misfortune “flies” to the center, exacerbating the influences of Metal-element annual 6, a sign that we still need to be vigilant in maintaining physical distancing efforts as Metal rules the lung and respiratory system in Traditional Chinese Medicine. From February 3 to March 4, keep the center of your office or residence clean, tidy, and free of loud noises and bright colors to avoid activating the monthly star 5.
Occupying its original place in the center, flying star 5, an Earth element star, is not associated with a trigram. This is a month to return to our center to reconnect with our inner world, a much needed reset after all the recent changes affecting our external world. As the 5 doesn’t relate to any direction, listen and trust your inner guidance.
This month’s most productive sectors are the Northeast and South sectors. Monthly star 8 of prosperity visits the Northeast to accompany the annual star 9 of future prosperity, while monthly star 9 flies to the South to form an auspicious sum of ten combination with the annual star 1 of wisdom and distant prosperity. Do your work or daily activities in these sectors to activate the auspicious stars.
The West sector benefits from the presence of the annual star 8 of prosperity, however remember to reinforce all doors and windows located in the sector as the monthly 7 makes the sector more vulnerable to robberies and fire dangers.
Keep the center, Southeast, North, and Southwest sectors as quiet as possible during the month. These are the sectors visited by the annual or monthly stars 5 of misfortune and stars 2 of illness. Take extra precautions when it comes to your health if your bedroom is located in any of these sectors and be mindful when opening or closing a door in these sectors. While you can put certain remedies to reduce the effects of negative stars, those remedies are only temporary.
The East sector, occupied by the annual star 4 of romance and academic studies, makes for a great study or entertaining space this year. With monthly star 3 of arguments visiting this month, however, try leaving the room for a while if you start noticing anger rising. The same applies to the Southwest sector, where the annual star 3 is.
