The year of the Golden Ox begins on February 3^rd, 2021 in the solar calendar. On this day, the annual heavenly influences that we refer to as “flying stars” in classical Feng Shui shift into new directions, affecting the energy of the environment, including the spaces we occupy. Instead of the usual monthly Feng Shui update, we’ll take a look at 2021’s annual stars as foresights to what we can anticipate in the year of the Ox.

January 2021 is a month of transition, with the environmental qi of the Metal Rat year still in effect but slowly fading and giving way to the energies of the Ox year. Since January’s flying stars mirror 2021’s annual stars, it’s best to do your annual Feng Shui adjustments for the year of the Ox early this year, in January instead of the usual February.

The flying stars, which are based on the movement of the Big Dipper, change places not only annually but also monthly, daily, and even bi-hourly, projecting their energetic signatures into our environment, from the world at large to our residences. Maintaining a yearly Feng Shui adjustment is essential as the annual stars are strong in influence and can suppress or activate a home’s natal/permanent stars. Working with the stars allows us to synchronize our energy with the environmental qi. When we understand the nature of the stars, we can work with the elements associated with the stars to bring positive change into our life.

In 2021, flying star 6 of power and authority, associated with Yang Metal and the Heaven trigram, “flies” to the center of the annual Feng Shui chart. The various meanings associated with the ruling trigram of a specific period can provide us with messages and guidance to issues that may arise during the particular period, just like the five elements can provide insights for what lies ahead. The Heaven trigram represents the creative force, the Father, and the fair leader. The three solid Yang lines in the trigram depict the ultimate Yang: pure light in the sky originating from Heaven, indicating that major changes and events are the works of heavenly forces. This is the year to listen to the spirit within and go deeper into the language of the stars.

The Heaven trigram favors wisdom, experience, and substance over style or superficiality. We will see highly capable, inspiring leaders who are more in touch with the Divine Masculine do their best in changing the world into a better place, driven by honor and virtue instead of by ego and greed. The I Ching, or Book of Changes refers to the creative force as “continuous movement and development. Through this force, all things are gradually changed until they are completely transformed in their manifestations.” We can expect creative solutions to existing problems – the more connected we are to the spirit within, the more authentic and timely our creations will be.

Because the 6 is a benevolent star, the focus on power and authority will be positive and earned rather than forced, as opposed to 2020’s annual 7, a hostile star associated with violence, robbery, and fire dangers. The annual 6 and 7, however, are both Metal element stars, an indication that Metal-related issues such as grief, justice, and lung-related diseases will still influence the environment in 2021.

The best sectors of 2021 are the West, Northeast, South, and center sectors. The West is blessed with the presence of the annual star 8 of prosperity, while the annual star 9 of joy and future prosperity visits the Northeast. Star 1 of wisdom and distant prosperity flies to the South, releasing the sector from the troublesome star 2 of illness. Do your work or daily activities in these sectors if the space is appropriate for such activities. If your bedroom is in the Northeast, keep a journal handy by the bedside as inspiration and insights can come easily through dreams. Take care when handling sharp objects in the center sector of your living space, especially in January, July, September, and October, when the monthly stars strengthen the prevailing Metal energy.

The East sector, occupied by annual star 4 of romance and academic excellence, is ideal for entertaining and academic studies. However, this is also the sector of the Three Killings in 2021. Keep your East sector quiet when not in use.

Be mindful when using 2021’s most afflicted sectors, which are the Southeast, North, Northwest, and Southwest sectors: avoid loud noises, open and close doors softly, and keep the sectors clean and tidy. The annual star 5 of misfortune is in the Southeast while star 2 of illness is in the North. Take extra precautions when it comes to your health if your bedroom or main door is located in any of these two sectors, or if you reside in the Southeast or North region of a geographical area. Reinforce all doors and windows located in the Northwest, visited by the annual 7, which makes the sector more vulnerable to robberies and fire dangers. Star 3 of arguments occupies the Southwest sector: be aware of your emotional state and leave the room temporarily if you start feeling angry or irritable.
