January 6 takes us into the month of the Fire Ox, the last month of the year of the Earth Pig. Yin / darkness is now in decline while Yang is gaining strength. Soon we will enter the new lunar year of the Metal Rat, celebrated on January 25th, which is also the beginning of spring in the Chinese calendar. The first half of January is a time to slow down, rest, and retreat. We may feel that the holiday season flew by too soon to give us proper R&R. With environmental Yang still in a sluggish state, stay warm to stoke your inner Yang. Avoid cold drinks and cook your food to bring Fire element into the body in this tail end of Yin season, especially if you are prone to having winter blues as Fire is the element of joy.

The Ox is one of the four Earth signs in Chinese Astrology that mark the end of a season. A Yin Earth sign that transitions us from winter to spring, the Ox also contains Yin Metal and Yin Water. January is that special time of the year when the three elements of the Ox manifest into new year’s resolutions and aspirations that may include taking better care of the self and the planet (Yin Earth), improving one’s appearance (Yin Metal), and gaining deeper wisdom and higher knowledge (Yin Water).

Fire element has been strong since December despite winter being a Water-dominated season. As Yin Fire, the higher frequency element of the month, is the unstable, reactive kind compared to December’s dependable Yang Fire, tune in to the heart to cultivate inner joy.

January 2020 Flying Stars Feng Shui Update

In the Flying Star Feng Shui chart above, the numbers in green are the annual stars for the current year (good until February 4, 2020), while the numbers in blue refer to January’s monthly stars.

The most productive sectors in January are the center and the Northwest. Monthly star 9 of future prosperity visits the center, the year of the Pig’s luckiest sector, amplifying the annual star 8 of prosperity. If the center of your home or office is an open and usable space free of obstructions or sharp angles, you can do your work or daily activities in the center to activate the positive energy. The Northwest is ideal for creative and social activities, with monthly star 1 of wisdom joining the annual star 9 of joy. The Northwest also benefits from the lucky sum-of-ten combination. Monthly star 8 of prosperity visits the Southeast, however it’d be best to use the sector with care and avoid loud noises as the Earth element of star 8 can strengthen the Metal element of the sector’s annual star 7 of robbery and fire dangers.

The sectors to spend as little time as possible this month are the Southwest, North, East, and Northeast. Keep the Southwest sector quiet for another month as annual star 5 of misfortune lingers in the Southwest till end of the Pig year, while the monthly star 5 visits the North sector. Reinforce any doors or windows located in the East sector and be mindful of sharp metal objects, especially if your kitchen is located in the sector. The monthly star 3 of arguments visits the Northeast, which clashes with the annual star 2 of illness.

*Although there may be remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to keep the area as quiet as possible and respect whatever energy is visiting there, especially if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal energies as you may accidentally activate a negative star’s natal influences.
