It’s been a busy few months of work and travel since the year of the Pig started in February, but I managed to contribute an article on how to start your own Feng Shui business to Feng Shui Journal April 2019 issue.
It’s also been a year since I launched Functional Feng Shui and I really feel like I’ve come full circle. My grad school education in business, my years working in start-ups, agencies, and publications, and my deep commitment to Qigong and Chinese Metaphysics have prepared me well. There were forces at work, ancestral push, and divine timing. It’s been a twenty-year journey to get to where I am, literally, as my 20th year MBA school reunion is coming up this weekend. What a milestone. It’s all good!

“If someone had asked me three years ago what my aspirations were, none of them involved being a full-time Feng Shui consultant. While I have been practicing Chinese metaphysics in my spare time since I took my first course with Grand Master Raymond Lo in 2012, I really enjoyed my professional life working in digital marketing. But fate had other plans.
In 2017, I was given the opportunity to buy a home. Feng Shui naturally became my guide in screening out properties. It wasn’t until one year and hundreds of floor plans later that I finally came upon the one I was comfortable making an offer on. During my search, I’d met a few agents who later hired me to assess homes that had been on their listings too long. These homes would sell shortly after my recommendations were implemented, and I soon found myself devoted to Feng Shui consulting as a full-time business.
My experience may sound like serendipity, but having your own Feng Shui consultancy comes with a set of unique challenges, especially when it comes to explaining what a Feng Shui consultant does to a culture not familiar with Chinese metaphysics. While the rise of digital marketing has made it easier for everyone to self-promote, the pressure to differentiate your services from others has also become much greater…”
